Hawaii is host to a number of unique birds. Everything from the common cranes to the rare honey creepers. I am not Mr. Hawaii bird expert by any means but there are a few birds that visit us from time to time that I have come to love. I would have to say one of my very favorite Hawaii birds is the Hawaiian Shaman Thrush. It has a beautiful gold belly and blue head. What makes this Hawaiian bird extra special is its song. I remember the first time I encountered this bird was when I was helping to dig out a small area for a slab and the Hawaiian Thrush came very close to where we were digging, apparently looking for a free lunch of small cockroaches and bugs. The guy I was digging with was Hawaiian and said watch this. he mimicked the song of the bird for over a minute as the Hawaiian thrush answered him back time after time. The bird stayed there for hours until we were done.
